After making the postseason in 2016, the Pittsburgh Steelers looked to maybe be the team that could take down the New England Patriots. However, their woes against them grew in the AFC Championship Game.
The Steelers are at an important juncture in their franchise’s history. Sure, they are a darn good team, one which is arguably the second best in the AFC. But their Super Bowl window is clearly closing. Ben Roethlisberger is a future Hall of Famer, but his career hourglass is starting to run out of sand. The Steelers know their time to win is now and they’ll look to add a missing piece or two in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh has eight picks in play for the 2017 draft. They’ll need everyone of them to fill their needs. The Steelers traditionally build via the draft. It might frustrate fans in the free agency era, but it’s hard to argue with their success. They build from within and only use free agency to add role players rather than their core players.
The Steelers could use the draft to find their replacement for Roethlisberger. However, it’s also tempting for them to put it off for another year and add what they think could be a missing piece. Here’s an updated draft order for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
