Andy Roddick continues to be the last American player to win a grand slam tournament, the 2003 US Open. Roddick has some thoughts on who will be the next American to win a grand slam, but he wasn’t quite willing to give up the name of that person for good reason.
"“I have my opinion, but I am not going to do that to whoever it is. I think we have played that game too long and the spotlight gets on someone before they have earned it or deserved it. There has not been a group of ten young Americans better than the one we have now. I hope they create a healthy jealousy amongst each other. Tiafoe won a challenger last week. I hope the guys behind him are saying wait a minute, I want to be there too.”"
Roddick discussed many topics including the treatment Serena Williams has received throughout her career from the media, Maria Sharapova’s return to the court after a 15-month suspension, the amazing continued play of Roger Federer and who he thinks will win this year’s French Open. Hint: It’s the same guy that was won it over and over again.
Roddick continues to play in the PowerShare Series with John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Mardy Fish, and Mark Phillippousis amongst others. He will next be on the court in Birmingham, Alabama on April 28th and then Chicago May 17.
Roddick is partnering with Nestle Purina Pro Plan as they begin their 20th anniversary of the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge. Pro Plan’s “Call For Incredible” also has a partnership with America’s VetDogs. Roddick himself has two incredible English bulldogs, Bob Costas and Billie Jean who always greet him with enthusiasm.
