With the second-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected Mitchell Trubisky out of the University of North Carolina.

Many believe this quarterback group is weak compared to other years, but Trubisky projects to be a solid player for the foreseeable future. While it is tough seeing a ceiling anywhere near Andrew Luck or Jameis Winston, Trubisky could absolutely become a better version of Andy Dalton. While Dalton takes plenty of criticism, that’s a quality starting quarterback.

If you have been following the draft process at all, you are very aware of the main concern around the former North Carolina star. Despite an underwhelming depth chart ahead of him, Trubisky was only able to start for one season. However, he was very impressive, showcasing ample abilities that make him a first-round selection.

Combine measurements

Height: 6’2”
Weight: 222
40-time: 4.67
Bench: N/A
Vertical: 27.5”
Broad: 116”
3-cone: 6.87

As for tools, everything is there. Trubisky has the size to be a tough sack for an opposing pass-rusher, and has the speed to be elusive once flushed from the pocket. Think about Alex Smith with a stronger arm, and Trubisky fits that comparison well.

While that may not sound overly-exciting for a first-round pick, these are just comps. Trubisky has a low floor and could surprise many of the pundits, becoming a top-10 player in the league. At the worst, though, it appears Trubisky will be above-average.

After signing Mike Glennon, Trubisky will be sitting for a year and then trying to earn his stripes in the Windy City. Giving up three picks is a ton for a player who is a major question mark.
