With the 28th-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Taco Charlton out of the University of Michigan.
Charlton is one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft. At Michigan, Charlton showcased immense talent that led him onto the first-team All-Big Ten team as a senior. Over the past two seasons, Charlton has emerged as a true pass-rushing threat, notching 15 over that span.
If there is any concern with Charlton, it is that he doesn’t have a ton of experience. The Ohio native only started for one year while being a rotational player the rest of his time in Ann Arbor. Still, the tape he put forth as a senior should have teams feeling better about his ability to play at the next level.
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 277
40-time: 4.92
Bench: 25 reps
Vertical: 33”
Broad: 116”
3-cone: 7.17
Look for Charlton to get some snaps immediately as an edge rusher, given that’s his best trait. He might need to put on weight and learn technique before he’s very effective against the run, although his athleticism should help to hold the edge and keep the back from breaking contain.

His combine numbers were excellent, allowing us to match up his production on tape with his athletic skills. If he hits his ceiling, Charlton could be very much like Elvis Dumervil. Dumervil has a similar frame with the ability to drive through a block or go around the edge, something Charlton has shown in his college days.
