Joel Embiid serenaded with ‘Trust the Process’ chants at NFL Draft

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid was graced by fans with chants of “Trust the Process” in Philadelphia before the start of the NFL Draft.
Philadelphia’s love affair with Joel Embiid just won’t stop. Prior to the start of the NFL Draft, which is being held in the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since 1961, Embiid was seen strutting through the throngs of fans decked in white, black and midnight green, among other football colors from various NFL franchises. As Embiid walked through the crowds, those fans could be heard chanting “Trust-the-Pro-cess.”
If you happened to be new to basketball — or ignored the regular season because you thought the Finals matchup was already set — The Process is the self-given, yet highly appropriate nickname for Embiid. Since he took the floor, Embiid has become the city’s favorite son.
The nickname spawned from the slogan “Trust the Process” — the tagline for former Sixers GM Sam Hinkie’s long-term plan to tank regular seasons in favor of gathering the most assets and the best possible draft position in hopes of getting a generational talent. Embiid was labeled as that talent.
But Embiid’s path to an NBA floor took two years, which left Sixers fans fiending for the franchise cornerstone Embiid was projected to be. When he finally did start playing, he burst through expectations.
Though he only played 25 minutes per game in 31 appearances, Embiid averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. His per 36 numbers are legendary. In January, his best month of the year, the Sixers scored 107.2 points per 100 possessions, while only giving up 91.2 points per 100 possessions defensively.
And the love for Embiid stretches off the court into social media, where Embiid is known for clever trolls and funny jokes.

Though his season was cut short to due a meniscus tear in late February, Embiid did enough his rookie season to hook Sixers fans to The Process. Seeing videos like this should be no surprise.
