With the 34th-overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected offensive tackle Cam Robinson from the University of Alabama.
Robinson could be one of those boom-or-bust prospects that gets talked about in five years, one way or the other. He was an excellent left tackle with the Crimson Tide throughout his time at the SEC power, but there are also some red flags. Robinson was arrested for possession of marijuana along with felony illegal possession of stolen firearms. The arrest happened in May 2016.
On the field, he was clearly one of the best tackles in college, although some wonder whether that was because of his massive size and not due to correct mechanics. Robinson is worthy of a high pick, for sure, but there are questions as to whether he has quick enough feet to handle some of the faster edge rushers in the NFL.
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 322
40-time: 5.15
Bench: N/A
Vertical: 26”
Broad: 106”
3-cone: 7.81
For now, look at Robinson to become a left tackle who, in a worst-case scenario, would kick inside and try his hand at guard. With 322 pounds on the frame, it stands to reason he could be a terrific interior blocker, especially in the run game. Still, that remains a last resort for a player who hopes to make his living on the edge.

Here’s to hoping that Robinson proves the skeptics wrong, stays out of trouble and has a productive NFL career.
