Cespedes is still scheduled to receive an MRI sometime today, and that will tell us how severe the injury is, and how long he’ll be out. This injury will allow Michael Conforto to continue to receive regular playing time in New York’s outfield.
The Mets have had a slew of injuries to their team during the first month of this season, and it doesn’t seem to be getting better anytime soon. Cespedes was off to a solid start this season, as he had 12 runs, 6 home runs, 10 RBI’s and a .270 batting average. He was easily the Mets’ best hitter, and will be sorely missed from their lineup for however long he is sidelined. This latest injury makes you wonder when the Mets are going to call up their stud prospect Amed Rosario. Rosario has been tearing the ball off the cover in AAA so far this season, compiling 10 runs and 8 RBIs on a .397 batting average through 20 games so far. He also plays stellar defense, and would provide the Mets with a spark they desperately need.
