Borussia Dortmund enter the weekend one point ahead of Hoffenheim for third in the Bundesliga table. Koln sit eighth in the table and continue to battle for the last European qualification spot.
Thomas Tuchel’s Dortmund side have played well over the past month, despite being eliminated in the Champions League by Monaco. In the Bundesliga, Dortmund have captured 10 of 15 points, with their only loss was to rival Bayern Munich.
On Wednesday, Dortmund got revenge on Bayern in the German cup. Tuchel’s side opened up a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Marco Reus capitalized on a Javi Martinez mistake. Martinez made up for his mistake in the 28th minute and former Dortmund captain Mats Hummels scored in the 41st minute. In the second half, Dortmund took it to the home side. Ousmane Dembele set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his 20th assist of the season. Dembele scored the winner five minutes later to send Dortmund to the final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
On Friday, Koln hosted Hoffenheim. The Billy Goats opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Jonas Hector found Leonardo Bittencourt unmarked in the box for the easy tap in. Despite Koln pushing forward in an attempt to get all three points, Koln could not find the back of the net. Late in injury time, Koln failed to clear the ball and Kerem Demirbay’s shot beat Timo Horn allowing Hoffenheim to steal a point. The result allowed Dortmund to move past Hoffenheim in the table.
