Jimmy Butler stated that he wants to stay with the Chicago Bulls next season.

Jimmy Butler has been in quite a few trade rumors this season. Earlier in the year, around the trade deadline, Butler’s name was being tossed around constantly and it was always traced back to one team: the Boston Celtics. The irony in those rumors is that the Celtics didn’t pull the trigger on the trade and ended up playing Butler in the first round of the playoffs.

Butler recently spoke out about all of the trade rumors and his future in Chicago. Jimmy hopes to not go anywhere in the offseason. He wants to stay in Chicago “for the long term.” For Bulls fans, this should be exhilarating news. Not only does their star player want to return for next season, but he wants to stay in Chicago for multiple seasons. Amid all of the recent trade rumors, this should be music to their ears. Sadly, it’s not up to the player if he is traded and we should see how this shakes out in the summer.

Another player who is questionable to return next season is Rajon Rondo. Rondo had some problems with the team earlier in the season, but towards the end of the season those issues disappeared and he stepped up as a leader on the court. Butler said “he’s been huge for us this year,” and that his leadership would be sorely missed if the Bulls don’t pick up his team option.

This is great news if you’re a Bulls fan. Not only does your franchise player want to stay in Chicago, but he wants to keep Rondo in Chicago too. Rondo was a key contributor to the short playoff success that the Bulls had. The Bulls should try to keep both of these guys around next season.
