Barcelona head across town this weekend to play their Catalonian rivals, Espanyol, in this season’s second installment of the Derbi Barceloni. Barca are looking to pull ahead in La Liga’s title race, currently locked in a draw for first place with Real Madrid, with each at 78 points. They’re in a run of good form at the moment, having thrashed Osasuna 7-1 midweek and beaten Real at the Bernabeu last Sunday in El Clasico.

Real Madrid still have a game in hand on Barcelona, so it’s essential Luis Enrique’s side keep the pressure on their rivals.

Espanyol sit ninth in the league table, eight points back of the European spots. They’re coming into this match after a draw at Sporting Gijon on Tuesday. The only other time these sides met this season, Barça won 4-1 at Camp Nou. With the stage shifting to Espanyol’s home pitch, things might get a little closer, as the hosts have won eight and drawn five at the Cornellà-El Prat this year.

After winning the domestic double last year, Barcelona have their eye on repeating. They only edged out Real by one point in 2016, and it’s looking possible that the margin could be just as thin this season.
