New York Giants coach Ben McAdoo reached out to Eli Manning after the team drafted another quarter back in the third round the NFL Draft.

Talk about awkward. You are enjoying a Friday night out with family and friends when news breaks. Or, maybe you are at home, sitting on the deck and enjoying a beverage and you get a text from your brother. The company you work for just hired someone that could replace you. Such scenarios could have played out or New York Giants veteran quarterback Eli Manning.

With the 87th pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Giants selected a quarterback, Davis Webb from the University of California. Webb started his career at Texas Tech, taking the starting job from Baker Mayfield. He then lost the job to Patrick Mahomes, whom was selected 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs. Webb then transferred to Cal.

In his final season at Cal, Web threw for for 4,295 yards with 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The yards and touchdown stats were good enough to be a top 10 quarterback in all of college football. His 6-foot-4 frame and big arm make him appealing to NFL teams. However, he has some accuracy concerns.

But that is not Eli Manning’s concern. Manning is 36 years old, with three years remaining on his contract. The Giants are starting to look to the future now. They just didn’t let Manning know before the pick was made. However, this is not the first time the team has picked up a quarterback in the draft. It is the fourth time since 2004, the year Manning was selected.

ESPN.com reports that the team reached out to Manning, only after the selection was made. The plan is bring Webb along and see what happens, so states general manager Jerry Reese.

"Couple years to be the caddie and learn the pro game and all the nuances of playing quarterback in this league. But he has all the tools. Hopefully he can sit on the sideline with a clipboard and learn the game"

Sure. The team has no need to let Manning know their plan. But after two Super Bowls and 12 years with the team, a little communication would be courteous.
