Randy Gregory reportedly failed another drug test
The Dallas Cowboys took a chance on defensive end Randy Gregory in the 2015 NFL Draft. It turns out that Jerry Jones missed the mark by a mile.
We’ve all been there. You want to believe someone is better than they are, or at the very least, we hope they are capable of things greater than they’ve yet proven to be. A couple of years ago, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones fell into the trip, selecting Gregory with his second-round pick (60th overall). The result has been pure disaster.
Gregory, who was already suspended for this entire season after testing positive for a sixth drug test, has now failed another, per TMZ. Gregory could be facing a lifetime ban. At this point, it would be stunning if he ever plays another down in the NFL.
Since being drafted into the league in 2015, Gregory has played in 14 games and been highly unproductive in those, notching 20 tackles and a single sack.
With the first-round pick of Taco Charlton on Thursday night, Dallas is clearly moving on from Gregory, as it should. While you hope the young man gets help for his issues, he doesn’t seem very interested in helping himself at the moment.
After going 13-3 last season and winning the NFC East, the Cowboys have been trying to solidify their defense in the draft. Charlton should help provide some pass rush in the front seven, while second-round choice, corner Chidobe Awuzie out of Colorado, might replace Brandon Carr, who left in free agency for the Baltimore Ravens.
