1. Patience

It is going to take time to make this rebuild work. It’ll even take time to see if it’s working. Vlade Divac and company are going to need to stick with it if they want this to succeed.

The Kings are going to feel tempted to blow up their rebuild, stunting the growth of their prospects in favor of returning to the comfortable middle where they used to reside. But now they have the opportunity to push into the future. All they have to do is do the opposite of everything they’ve done this past year.

There isn’t a way to guarantee success in the NBA. Some players may seem phenomenal, but then they get traded and you realize that they were the product of excellent coaching and teammates. Some coaches seem like they can’t lose, but nobody else can make their system work. There’s just too many variables for there to be One True Way.

There is, however, a way to guarantee failure: be impatient. If Divac know what’s good for him, he’ll avoid that trait like he avoids making eye contact with DeMarcus Cousins.
