2017 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers final grade
How did the Green Bay Packers fare in the 2017 NFL Draft? We go through each pick and tack on a grade.
The NFL draft has come and gone and now it is time for review. Of course, it will be easier to look back in a few years and really find out how these players fit and transitioned to their new roles. But as a whole, you can understand team philosophies and processes which deserve to be examined upon first glance. With that said, here is the Green Bay Packers final grade.
The Packers traded back and got their likely target at pick 29. The team had a desperate need for a cornerback. Quinten Rollins and Demarious Randall have been rocky picks and Ladarius Gunter has played way too much recently. The Packers recently brought in Davon House, and that is not a long term answer at cornerback.
King has great size and tested tremendously at the combine. He still has a lot of work to be a refined cornerback but has the traits that you cannot teach which is a great start.
Jones is an interesting second round pick as an in the box safety. He has great size and length and a physical presence as a cornerback. He is not the best in deep coverage and does not take great angles so he the closer he is to the line of scrimmage, the better he is.
Jones is athletic and can roam sideline to sideline to make big time hits and stops. This means HaHa Clinton-Dix playing a lot more over the top which is a better fit for the Packers defense.
