How did the Seattle Seahawks fare in the 2017 NFL Draft?

The NFL draft has come and gone and now it is time for review. Of course, it will be easier to look back in a few years and really find out how these players fit and transitioned to their new roles. But as a whole, you can understand team philosophies and processes which deserve to be examined upon first glance. With that said, here is the Seahawks final grade.

35

Malik McDowell

Defensive Tackle, Michigan State

The Seahawks traded back twice and likely still wound up with the guy that they wanted. On tape, McDowell is a stud and easy first round pick. However, he is a freelance player and has admitted to playing away from the game plan and doing whatever he wanted to do. It plummeted the stock of the big time defender.

However, the Seahawks clearly trust their infrastructure and a player such as Michael Bennett is exactly what is needed for McDowell. The story on Bennett is a player who can slide inside on pass rushing downs. McDowell can slide outside on pass rushing downs and he will likely get on the field and in a rotation in a variety of spots in his first season.

58

Ethan Pocic

Center, LSU

The Seahawks took a versatile and athletic offensive lineman. It was absolutely no matter where he plays in the NFL. He mostly played center in the NFL, but he is pretty tall and has the size and length to potentially play tackle. In Seattle, both spots are needs. However, he fits you would assume that the Hawks will be able to find a starting job for him in the NFL next year.
