American Gods debuts with season 1, episode 1, “The Bone Orchard.” Here’s what you need to know to watch American Gods on TV and online.

The highly anticipated television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods debuts on April 30, and by all accounts it is going to be a hit.

American Gods is the story of old gods looking to reclaim the spotlight as new ones have taken their places. The new gods reflect the changes in the way people thing. Technology is worshipped in today’s society, and our dependence upon it feeds the newborn deity so that he is a force to be reckoned with.

Here’s the official episode synopsis from Starz:

"When Shadow Moon is released from prison early after the death of his wife, he meets Mr. Wednesday and is recruited as his bodyguard. Shadow discovers that this may be more than he bargained for."

One of the most fascinating aspects of American Gods is that it is being considered “unspoilable” and that you couldn’t create spoilers if you wanted to. It’s not clear what that means short of watching the show, but even the show’s Twitter account posted pictures of scenes that would have been kept under wraps by the folks at Game of Thrones. Given that the show is an adaptation of Gaiman’s book, there will be some things that fans already know, but it would seem that the television version of American Gods might present the story in a much different way.
