Chelsea sit atop the Premier League table, just four points ahead of Tottenham. Everton are seventh in the table, but are just six points back of Manchester City in fourth However, Everton have played more games than City, Manchester United and Arsenal.
After losing two of their first four games in April, Chelsea rebounded with back-to-back 4-2 wins over Tottenham in the FA Cup and Southampton in the league. The Blues got off to a fast start on Tuesday against Southampton, with Eden Hazard scoring in the fifth minute. Former Chelsea player Oriol Romeu tied the game, scoring off of a corner. Defender Gary Cahill scored right before halftime. Eight minutes into the second half, Diego Costa scored his first of two second-half goals.
Everton should be disappointed that they didn’t get all three points against a struggling West Ham team last week. The Toffees have been great in 2017, losing just two games. However, Everton have only captured eight of a possible 15 points in April.
Sunday’s game will be decided by former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. The Everton striker is leading the Premier League with 24 goals. If the Blues can’t stop their former striker, Everton could win. Lukaku has scored three times in his past three games.
