The young winger got the Ducks off to a blistering start in game three in Edmonton.

The Anaheim Ducks entered game three of their playoff series with the Edmonton Oilers in a tough spot, down 2-0 after losing two straight home games. Needing a win on Sunday, Rickard Rakell started the comeback campaign quickly on his team’s first shot of the game.

Anaheim’s top left winger scored on a breakaway just 25 seconds into the first period, beating goalie Cam Talbot over his left arm. Ryan Getzlaf set Rakell up beautifully, hitting him with a perfect breakout pass from below his own goal line to send him in alone.

The goal was Rakell’s third of the playoffs, bringing his points total up to six in seven postseason appearances for Anaheim. Sports Illustrated has a clip of the goal for you to see below:

The 23-year-old Rakell has broken out as a key two-way player for Anaheim this year, scoring 33 goals and finding a spot on their first line. The Ducks may have started this series poorly, losing their home ice advantage and now trying to come back in front of a very hostile Edmonton crowd, but they’ve started this game well. Anaheim added another two goals in the first period, from Jakob Silfverberg and Ryan Getzlaf, to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Should the Ducks hold on to this lead, they’ll cut Edmonton’s series lead to 2-1. They’ll still need to win three of four games to advance to the Western Conference Final, with two games still to play at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Anaheim came into this series as favorites after sweeping the Calgary Flames in the first round, but a long wait between games may have made them a little rusty for games one and two of this one.
