Some uniforms hold a special place in the hearts of fans because of ties to a particular moment in the team’s history, or even to a specific player. For Atlanta Braves fans, there is a very special place for the uniform Hank Aaron wore when he broke Babe Ruth’s career home run record, launching his 715th career long ball at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in 1974.

The “little A” on Atlanta’s cap and helmet from 1972-80 are also thought of fondly in Braves Country, enough so that the team implemented them on its spring training caps in recent years. The uniform, oddly enough, also earns points because it features a slightly different color scheme with royal blue as the primary color, though the concept loses points because the team dropped gray road uniforms from 1972-75 and wore blue tops instead.

It’s also worth mentioning that the 1974 Braves uniform also beats out some of the team’s other concepts because of the toned down Native American imagery. You may notice that the Cleveland Indians are nowhere to be found on this list, and Chief Wahoo is a big reason why.

The franchise formally adopted the Braves nickname in 1912 in Boston, and has used it uninterrupted since 1941. However, no Braves uniforms that feature the “Screaming Indian” logo made the cut on our list, and there are also some issues with the current uniform set. While the feathers on Hammerin’ Hank’s shoulders aren’t completely innocent, they’re far better than the tomahawk the team currently features on its chest.
