1. New York Yankees (Home)

There’s really only one franchise in Major League Baseball that can be described completely by one aspect of its uniform. Several teams wear them, including early adopters such as the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs, as well as more modern franchises such as the Colorado Rockies, Florida Marlins, and even the early Arizona Diamondbacks. But when someone says “in pinstripes,” almost always, the image that jumps to mind is the New York Yankees.

The Yankees first wore pinstripes sometime around 1915, before Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Yankee Stadium became part of the team’s history. Pinstripes also predated the first American League pennant in team history (1921) and the first World Series title (1923). The Yankees have since added 40 pennants and 27 World Championships to their trophy case, all with pinstripes as part of the team’s home uniform.

In addition to the iconic pinstripes, the interlocking NY is one of the greatest logos in sports, and it also dates back more than a century – even farther than the pinstripes, to around 1913 when the logo was first placed on the team’s home jerseys. The New York Giants used a version before moving to San Francisco, and the Mets always have, but the Yankees did it first.

The Yankees have also resisted the urge to change, and for good reason. Other than ditching a white-crown and pinstriped cap last worn in 1921, adding numbers to jerseys in 1929, and making very subtle changes to the interlocking NY logo on the front, the New York Yankees have worn the exact same uniforms at home for more than a century. And simply, the pinstripes are the best look baseball has ever produced.
