Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles will be paying the Denver Broncos a visit.

The Kansas City Chiefs released long-time running back Jamaal Charles earlier this offseason. He became expendable following a rash of injuries and the emergence of several cheaper options. Charles visited with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason, but hasn’t found a team to sign with yet. This could change quickly, as Ian Rapoport is reporting the Denver Broncos will host him for a visit.

Charles has haunted them in the past, so this could be an interesting fit. It’s weird when long-time rivals sign with your team, but to be fair, loyalty is all but dead in sports. Charles would be a solid fit for the Broncos. Despite his injuries, he’s still one of the fastest and quickest runners in the NFL. The Broncos don’t have any dynamic threats in the backfield, so adding Charles would be a great addition to an already pretty good team.

For Chiefs fans, this has to feel pretty awkward. It’s hard to see a long-time fan favorite go elsewhere. But it’s even worse when they bolt for a division rival. Charles could come back to haunt the Chiefs twice next season and fans know how great he can be.

The former track star has played just eight games over the last two seasons due to a variety of injuries. However, Charles has five 1,000 yard rushing seasons under his belt, so he still probably has something in the tank if he’s healthy. Expect this to be a one or two-year deal with a lot of incentives for production and games played. Charles likely won’t see much guaranteed money due to his long list of injuries. But if he can stay healthy, he should be able to make some money.
