Bobby Ryan’s magical postseason continues after setting Jean-Gabriel Pageau with an unbelievable behind the back pass.

The Ottawa Senators have been getting production from some unlikely sources during the NHL postseason. One of those sources has been much maligned wing Bobby Ryan. Coming off a 25-point season, the fewest points of his career since his rookie season in 2007-08, entering Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers, he had seven points in eight games.

Ryan got his eight point in his ninth postseason game this year with an amazing behind the back, no-look pass to teammate Jean-Gabriel Pageau. He went behind the net and did the unexpected, catching Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh off guard. Ryan’s assist helped the Senators cut the Rangers lead to 4-1 towards the end of the second period.

Ottawa has to start a comeback in order to pull out a Game 3 win. Only time will tell if it starts with Ryan’s assist. It wouldn’t be the most surprising moment of their season if they come back and win. The Senators have been through a lot as individuals and as a group this season, showing impressive fortitude while doing so.

Ryan battled injures throughout this season. This made it hard for him to get into a rhythm. However, Ryan’s been a huge postseason hero for the Senators, leading the team in points with seven. Pageau is right behind him with six points (all of them goals). Erik Karlsson has been getting a lot of the attention (and rightfully so), but Ryan’s been a very huge part of Ottawa’s success so far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If the Senators are going to advance in the postseason, he’ll have to play a huge role in it.
