LeGarrette Blount could be a potential target for a Detroit Lions team in need of a power back.
General manger Bob Quinn did not draft a running back last week, despite many believing the Lions would address the position in the draft. Now, according to Justin Rogers of the Detroit News, the Lions are viewing LeGarrette Blount as a potential target.
At 6-feet tall and 250 pounds, Blount is the power back the Lions are missing in the backfield. Paring Blount with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick could give the Lions a scary combination.
At 30 years old, Blount is coming off his best season rushing for 1,161 yards and 18 touchdowns. Although, his age is a concern, he wouldn’t be given a heavy load. He would be primarily used as a goal line back or in short-yardage situations.
Blount would also give the Lions more depth in the back field. The Lions struggled to stay healthy through out the season in 2016. Abdullah suffered a foot injury in Week 2 that placed him on IR for the remainder of the season, and Riddick dealt with a wrist injury.
It would be to nobody’s surprise that Quinn has taken an interest in Blount. He was with the New England Patriots as there director of pro scouting when they brought in Blount via trade back in 2013. He’s also known for bringing in veteran players as he signed Anquan Boldin via free agency last summer at the start of training camp.

The Lions have had a drought of rushing yards the last couple seasons. Adding Blount could give Detroit the rushing attack it has been looking for.
