The Brewers and Cardinals continue their series tonight at Busch Stadium and two overdue starters could lead the way to an under.

Disappointing start to May as we lose Velasquez vs Anderson Under 11 by a run, pretty much thanks to a visibly frustrated Brett Anderson, who was unhappy with the game being started in rainy conditions despite a 90-minute delay beforehand. Can’t blame him if you saw it coming down in the first. Anyway, let’s move on to Tuesday.

Wily Peralta vs Carlos Martinez

UNDER 8 (-115) (via OddsShark)

Here we simply have a matchup featuring two starting pitchers that are pitching better than their stats may indicate.

With Carlos Martinez, yes, his 0-3 record and 4.71 ERA certainly may look like a disappointing first month for someone who is the ace of this pitching staff, but he’s actually been stronger than that. The five-year veteran has amassed 39 strikeouts over 28 2/3 total innings of work, and other than an ugly eight-walk performance against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, Martinez has relatively kept the free passes to a minimum.

Additionally, all three home outings for the 25-year-old have registered as quality starts, and Busch Stadium is where he’ll find himself this evening.

As for Brewers starter Wily Peralta, he, too, has probably pitched better than the numbers he’s posted thus far. Interestingly, he is 4-1, and that may be because the right-hander is at least managing to eat up innings, pitching into the sixth or deeper in all but one of his assignments.

With the line at 8, we can get by with Peralta spinning a serviceable outing, while Martinez hopefully harnesses his overpowering form tonight. Following that game plan, the under has some potential here.
