Sidney Crosby will miss Game 4 after suffering a concussion in Game 3.

The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a frustrating 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals in Game 3. After being down to them 2-0 with under two minutes to go, the Pens got two quick goals to tie the game. Washington ended it in overtime thanks to Kevin Shattenkirk’s overtime game winning power play goal. The loss could turn out to be very costly, as captain Sidney Crosby suffered a concussion in the first period.

While around the Caps net, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin hit him in the head. Defenseman Matt Niskanen hit him in the head as well while Crosby was falling down. The latter got a five minute cross-checking penalty and got ejected from the game. However, Niskanen will not face further discipline from the NHL.

Without Crosby, the Penguins will turn to Evgeni Malkin. The 2004 second overall pick has a lot of success without Sid The Kid in the lineup. He averages over a point per game without him in the lineup. Still, this is a very tough loss for Pittsburgh, who will have to win Game 4 without their best player.

The Penguins nearly won Game 3 without their captain. However, winning Game 4 will be a very tall task. That said, the Penguins might be able to rally around their captain. They must forget about trying to retaliate for his injury on the ice and worry about retaliating on the scoreboard instead.

Pittsburgh holds a 2-1 series lead over the Capitals. But this lead could go away very soon with the best player in the world out. The Penguins will host the Caps in Game 4 on Wednesday in what could be the pivotal game of the series. Especially with Washington having home ice advantage with a win in Game 4.
