Tigers minor league affiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens, may only be known for rehab assignments, but the The Beatles are about to change that
Whenever a member of the Detroit Tigers suffers an injury that keeps them out for a substantial period of time, they have to go through the proper rehab assignments before they return to the club. As per usual, that requires a trip through the minor leagues. For the Tigers, that means a stint with the Toledo Mud Hens in Triple-A. Other than on a list of “best minor league team nicknames,” that’s probably the only time you hear about the Mud Hens. The Beatles are about to change that, though.
Yes, The Beatles stopped making music as a group decades ago. However, they’re still at least among — if not alone at the top of — the greatest bands in human history. Paul, John, George and Ringo’s influence lives on. And in June 2017, they’ll celebrate a huge anniversary.
One of their most famous albums, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, turns 50 years old. Though the music on the album is iconic, even more so is the album cover. Beyond just “Paul is Dead” conspiracy theorists scouring over it, it’s also a colorful and cultural snapshot of the time. That’s where the Mud Hens come into play.
To commemorate the anniversary of the album, according to The Score, the Toledo Triple-A club will host “Beatles Night.” As minor league teams so often do, they’ll mark the occasion on June 16 with Sgt. Pepper’s and Beatles themed jerseys:

Sometimes the minor league jerseys with themes get a little ridiculous. In fact, these probably still qualify in that regard. However, it’s hard not to love the military uniform and Beatles look if we’re being honest.

Regardless of what the uniforms look like and opinions about them, though, there’s one thing we can all agree on. If the Mud Hens don’t play “With A Little Help From My Friends” after a double-play on Beatles Night, then why even have the event?
