Manny Machado has lost all respect for the Boston Red Sox organization after getting into a heated encounter with Chris Sale.

Just a month into the new MLB season, the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox are quickly becoming the biggest rivalry in the league. Red Sox fans made headlines for all the wrong reasons when they targeted Adam Jones with racist chants. But the two engaged in another heated encounter when Chris Sale threw behind Manny Machado, becoming the second Red Sox pitcher to do so this season.

For a brief moment, it seemed like the Jones situation would bring the two teams together when the Fenway faithful gave him a standing ovation for his first at-bat. Sale even stepped off the mound to let it go on.

So once he threw behind Machado, it predictably got the two sides going, and in his post-game scrum, the Orioles third baseman went off on the Red Sox:

In case you couldn’t quite make out what he said because of all the expletives, here’s a transcript of his rant:

It’s understandable if these two teams can get caught up in the heat of the moment sometimes, but there’s never a valid excuse for a pitcher to throw behind a player like that. If they’re still upset over his slide into Dustin Pedroia, that would be even worse, as that happened two weeks ago and was seemingly “settled” by Matt Barnes. Machado also received loud boos, but nothing close to what Jones received.

For the neutral fan, it might be exciting to watch these two teams go at it this early. And although every game matters, there’s no use displaying this much animosity toward each other during the first month of baseball. Although, for the players’ sake, you could understand if they’d prefer to get suspended now than in October.
