Ranking the top five goalkeepers in the Premier League based on their performances in 2016-17.

The Premier League houses a plethora of the best keepers from a variety of nations around the globe. Countries such as Belgium, France, Argentina and Spain are all represented in the Premier League.

Narrowing a large field down to the five best can often be difficult, especially with a whopping 170 clean sheets between all Premier League keepers.

However, after carefully analyzing performances and stats, the field has been slimmed down to five.

All stats from Fox Sports (as of April 21).

5. Fraser Forster, Southampton

When it rains, it pours.

Forster’s season has been nothing short of peculiar. The Englishman currently sits fourth in the Premier League in terms of clean sheets (11), yet has allowed a whopping 40 goals in 31 starts. The 29-year-old has shown two extremes in a majority of games this season, either saving everything or nothing.

Strangely enough, Forster has tallied 11 games in which he has allowed multiple goals, complimenting his 11 clean sheets. Forster has saved less than 50 percent of the shots that come his way, significantly less than the next man on the list.

However, Forster’s talent can’t be denied. With 11 clean sheets on the season, only the three of the keepers above Forster on this list have more than the man in goal for Southampton.

Forster’s total number of clean sheets is up three from last season, as he missed much of the campaign. In fact, Forster has played every minute of every match for Southampton thus far, nearly doubling his number of appearances (18) from last season.

When all is said and done, Forster is one of the most talented keepers in the league.
