Kentucky Derby 2017: Complete finishing order
Through rain and sunshine, the 143rd annual Kentucky Derby has added a new winner to the list of greats. Here are the complete results.
In a year where it was tough to predict a winner and the weather made it all the more difficult, the 143rd annual Kentucky Derby offered the same excitement fans are accustomed to. From the beginning, it was clear the track conditions were going to provide a big obstacle to the jockeys even as the sun came back out.
Always Dreaming got off to a great start while Thunder Snow refused to get going and got off to a rough beginning. Irish War Cry tried making a move while State of Honor made a run on Always Dreaming.
Down the backstretch, the story remained the same as State of Honor and Always Dreaming battled for the lead up front. As the horses raced around the far turn, Always Dreaming took the lead with Irish War Cry right behind.
As they raced down the final furlong, Always Dreaming pulled away from the rest of the field as Lookin at Lee finished second followed by Battle of Midway and Classic Empire.
The favorite in the field made it look about as easy as possible given the conditions and came through with this win. With a 143rd winner crowned, here are the complete results from the 2017 Kentucky Derby.
With the 143rd Kentucky Derby officially in the books, the Preakness Stakes is up next in the Triple Crown. The Preakness will ultimately determine whether or not a Triple Crown could be had at the 2017 Belmont Stakes.

Always Dreaming will now begin the trek toward trying to join the great horses that have won the Triple Crown. If the Preakness is anything like the Kentucky Derby, it should be quite the event in Maryland.
