With the 2017 Kentucky Derby taking place on Saturday evening, here’s a look at the complete field of horses who will compete in this event.

We are in the heart of horse racing season, as the biggest competitions of the year are set to take place. This started with the 2017 Kentucky Oaks on Friday evening. However, there are still three races in the Triple Crown. The first of them will be the Kentucky Derby, which is considered the biggest one of the year.

The Kentucky Derby is in its 143rd year. It will take place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY, in front of tens of thousands of fans and celebrities in attendance.

This race always has the bright lights focused on it, as it’s the beginning of a three-competition stretch to see if we can get our latest Triple Crown winner. That last happened in 2015, with American Pharoah. Before him, it was Affirmed in 1978.

For the 2017 Kentucky Derby, there will be over 20 horses competing. The winner will likely be part of the Preakness Stakes, and have a chance to go back-to-back. The full horse list can be seen below:

  1. Lookin at Lee
  2. Thunder Snow
  3. Fast and Accurate
  4. Untrapped
  5. Always Dreaming
  6. State of Honor
  7. Girvin

  16. Tapwrit
  17. Irish War Cry
  18. Gormley

Fans will be looking for the next American Pharoah, as whoever wins will have a spotlight placed on not only the horse, but the jockey for the Preakness Stakes. They’ll want to see if history can be made for the second time in three times, something that would bring even more eyes toward this sport.
