Kentucky Derby 2017: Post time
Taking a look at the post time for the 2017 Kentucky Derby as Churchill Downs should see a wide-open race on Saturday, May 6
It wasn’t long ago that the Kentucky Derby was buzzing about the great American Pharoah. As we all know, the run at Churchill Downs was just the beginning of a history-making run for the horse as he went on to capture the Triple Crown — the first time in almost 40 years that it’d been done. The dominance of that run was undeniable, but it’s not something we’re likely to see again in the 2017 Kentucky Derby.
Unlike with the 2015 triple crown run, the 2017 Kentucky Derby won’t have eyes on any one horse at post time. Instead, there will be eyes all over the field. The odds have been shuffling like mad ever since they were released. When it comes down to it, no one has anything other than a vague notion of which horse will pull away on Saturday, May 6.
Following the post announcements, Classic Empire was named as the favorite and seemed to get a lot of love. However, as we’ve crept closer to the 2017 Kentucky Derby post time, that’s faded to a degree. In face, we could see Irish War Cry, McCracken and Always Dreaming shuffle with Classic Empire in terms of being the favorite all the way up to the start of the race.
What this does mean, though, is that the race itself should be a phenomenally fun affair. When there’s no one dominant horse — and when the track conditions at Churchill Downs aren’t 100 percent ideal — things can get wild. As such, things might get wild. By proxy, you won’t want to miss it from start to finish. So then, when is the 2017 Kentucky Derby post time so that doesn’t happen?
