Taking a look at the updated Vegas lines and betting odds for each of the horses in the 2017 Kentucky Derby.

The 2017 Kentucky Derby will be held on Saturday, May 6. It’s the official start of the Triple Crown season and also the unofficial start of the horse racing season in general for more casual fans. For many, it’s known as the start of the betting season. People love to place bets on the Derby.

However, placing bets can be difficult because the odds are constantly changing. This year’s Derby is no different. Making things more complicated is this year’s field lacks a clear front-runner. While there are several horses clearly above the others, no one horse has separated himself from the rest of the pack around him.

Here’s an updated list of the betting odds and lines for each horse running in the 2017 Kentucky Derby, courtesy of OddsShark. This is sorted by odds from best to worst.

  1. Always Dreaming +400
  2. Classic Empire +425
  3. McCracken +650
  4. Irish War Cry +650
  5. Gunnevera +1200
  6. Thunder Snow +1600
  7. Girvin +1600
  8. Gormley +1600
  9. Practical Joke +1600
  10. Hence +2200
  11. Irap +2500
  12. Tapwrit +2500
  13. Battle of Midway +2800
  14. Lookin At Lee +2800
  15. J Boys Echo +3300
  16. Patch +3300
  17. Sonneteer +3300
  18. State of Honor +4000
  19. Untrapped +5000
  20. Fast and Accurate +6600

Classic Empire would be the best bet. He’s the closest thing the derby has to a favorite. His track record is the best of the field and he has a lot of success on similar 1.25 mile track. Obviously, the weather could throw a huge monkey wrench into the works. But it would be shocking to not see Classic Empire and Always Dreaming to at least place in the top three.
