The Golden State Warriors caused a stink last week when several of their players put-down the night life in Salt Lake City, with Matt Barnes even saying that he’d like to see the Clippers beat the Jazz in their first round series because of the dull evening possibilities.

The Jazz and their city clapped back on the criticisms but I’m not sure they’ve convinced anyone from the Bay Area. The Warriors are in Salt Lake for the next few days to play Games 3 and 4 of their second round series with the Jazz and so we decided to try and help them find a few spots that could help them change their mind about the possibilities in Salt Lake.

Since we haven’t actually been to Salt Lake before, we’re relying on Instagram and Yelp reviews.

Purgatory

Serry_Joane1223: Need a drink a few streets down after watching the Jazz slog through another 85-77 win at Vivint Smart Home Arena? Hit up Purgatory on E. 700 St. in downtown Salt Lake. Let’s be honest, there’s only so many times you can walk into these Jazz games without thinking about how awesome the Jazz teams of the late ’90s were and how badly you wish you could go back to those times. I mean Quin Snyder is great and all but who doesn’t miss that Jerry Sloan guy and his team of mailmen and stock?

That’s why I love Purgatory so much. They have all the banners of those teams that made it to the NBA Finals hanging around the interior as well as banners of Stock, the Mailman and that handsome devil of a coach that has 1,223 wins in franchise history, what’s that guy’s name again? Come through and have some seasonal IPAs while trying to come to grips with the fact that this team may fall apart after free agency this summer.

Boris’ Coffee House

Tony_Longoria8: Since I have a few extra days to myself after a work-related injury, I had to stop by my main man Boris’ place. Diaw may be new to SLC but he has certainly left his impression on the city during the season — well in everything but his 3-point shooting percentage. While the coffee house certainly has a European feel, don’t mistake this for your typical “foreign-style club.” They have dozens of selections of wine, most of it aged for the past couple decades in the dank cellars of Wasatch Range, and the owner even stops in while the team is in town for games.

And of course, it wouldn’t be Boris’ without the bars being stocked with different local coffee brands being mixed with Baileys and other types of liquor. Hear me out here, Folgers mixed with Captain Morgan sounds gross until you taste the richness of both flavors mixing together. Some would call it strange, I call it uniquely Boris. P.S. I hope you like French classical music!

Mousse Lounge

The_BYU_Cougar: The Mousse Lounge was crafted after the Moose Lounge, a popular club in downtown SLC that appeals to the young and trendy in the area. But when Gordon Hayward was drafted by the Jazz in 2010, he wanted a place all his own that would reflect his unique Indiana roots in the West. So Hayward created a club for twentysomethings that enjoy getting a little tipsy and dancing the night away to “Mr. Brightside” on repeat. This place is perfect for those who wanted to escape Provo and get down to the beat of mixed drinks behind the bar and smoky ales while local talent plays on the indoor stage.

The Mousse Lounge is also different than any bar in the area because it contains one of the coolest features of any bar in the U.S.: a barbershop. As is implicit in its name, the Mousse Lounge specializes in giving the most popular haircut out right now, one the Utah Jazz recently dubbed “the Gordon Hayward.” Is it unsanitary and wrong to have hair clippings and haircuts going on while you sip on your IPA and listen to a little “Sweet Caroline”? If it is, I never want to be right. Also, a great place to pick up college hipster guys.

Liquid Joe’s

Joe_Singles2: Ayyee mates, ever wonder if there was a place that could seamlessly transition from playing the Gorillaz before mixing in some Lincoln Park and Metallica? Liquid Joe’s is your spot! We all know what area of the country we’re in right now and who the typical inhabitants are so embrace the rock scene, bob your head to some guitar riffs and let your hair flow from beneath your trucker hats. We came here to party loudly, not sing Katy Perry and hold hands until the club closes at midnight.

So grab your mates, put on your best bedazzled shirts with your favorite metal band on it and let’s get down to business. If you’re into getting gnarly to some ’80s cover bands and great service from bartenders as well as some solid bar food, this is your place. Just make sure to bring some righteous friends.
