The long awaited boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and GGG will finally happen and Twitter went off when the fight was announced

Canelo Alvarez put on an absolute clinic on Saturday night in a much-hyped fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. To say that it was an actual boxing match might do the sport disservice. Instead, it was 12 rounds of Alvarez just teeing off on his opponent. There have been plenty of one-sided fights in boxing history, but few have been so highly touted and then turned out to be so. Thus, the question was what’s next for Canelo.

Everyone had a hope for what was next for Alvarez. The pride of Mexico has long been rumored to be in talks about facing Gennady Golovkin (GGG), but nothing had ever materialized. After the fight on Saturday in Las Vegas, though, that was finally put to bed. When asked about his next fight, Canelo called out GGG and said that he was next.

Golovkin then came down to the ring and Max Kellerman interviewed both Canelo and GGG. It was intense and it’s clear that both men are ready to prove their the best when the fight takes place on Sept. 16. As far as fights go, few will have as much hype behind them as this one.

Don’t believe me? Here’s a look at how Twitter reacted to the Canelo vs. GGG announcement:

If there’s one thing that we can definitively gather from the reactions throughout Twitter, it’s that both Canelo and GGG are definitely going to win when they face off. Except for the small fact that’s not possible, but we’ll let technicalities slide.

On a serious note, this fight is going to beĀ enormous. In the age when superfights aren’t necessarily in boxing anymore, this has that potential. Without a doubt, it’s going to tear the roof of wherever they fight on Sept. 16. And anyone who gives an inkling of a damn about boxing will be tuned in with eager eyes.
