Following a 3-0 victory against Middlesbrough, Chelsea can clinch the Premier League title on Friday against West Brom.

Tottenham’s shock loss against West Ham last Friday opened the door for Chelsea to increase their lead to seven points. They took advantage, beating Middlesbrough 3-0 to move one step closer to their second title in the last three seasons.

Chelsea have led the league since match-week 12, controlling their destiny ever since. Following an impressive unbeaten run, the Blues cemented their place at the top and haven’t moved since. Chelsea sit at the top with 84 points, seven points ahead of challenger Tottenham.

Today, Chelsea throttled Middlesbrough en route to an easy victory that puts them 90 minutes away from another title. Chelsea were their dominant selves, even without their defensive stalwart N’Golo Kante controlling the midfield. Kante is out with a thigh injury which is worrisome for Chelsea, but given how strong they looked today, it may not be the end of the world.

Chelsea travel to the Hawthorns to face West Brom on Friday, May 12 with the title on the line. The Blues will be looking to clinch the title before Tottenham even get a chance to play. Tottenham face Manchester United on Sunday, but it will be meaningless if Chelsea are victorious on Friday.

Chelsea will likely field the same starting XI as today, unless Kante is available, but there is no need to rush him back with the FA Cup final on the horizon. With the title in their sights, expect Chelsea to be their same clinical selves and control the match from start to finish against West Brom. It is highly unlikely that they will squander the opportunity that Tottenham provided for them and let the title chase extend another week.
