Former Celtics head coach Doc Rivers made a surprise visit on KG’s Area 21 pre-game show. A few members of the Celtics championship team joined Kevin Garnett in the studio.

On the final episode of KG’s Area 21 pre-game show, former Celtics great Kevin Garnett held a reunion with some of the members of the 2008 NBA championship team. Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, Kendrick Perkins, and Glen “Big Baby” Davis all joined Kevin Garnett on the set. To cap off the perfect pre-game show, the head coach that led the team to a championship stopped by to say hello to his former players.

The most shocking part of the reunion, of course, was the absence of Ray Allen. Former Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo was in charge of the invitations to the event. Rondo and the rest of the Celtics members that were in attendance still have resentment to the fact that Allen departed Boston to join the LeBron James led Miami Heat in 2012.

Doc Rivers and Paul Pierce got to say their goodbyes in the proper fashion after the two spent the past three years with the Clippers. While the Clippers have underachieved during the Doc Rivers era, it was nice to see Pierce finish off his career in Los Angeles, the city he is originally from. Rivers, whose job is currently in jeopardy with the Clippers, paid his respects giving Paul Pierce a wheelchair. The wheelchair symbolizes an important moment in the Celtics championship run propelling an odd momentum burst over the LA Lakers.

Rajon Rondo is the only active player that remains from that ’08 team. That Celtics team always brought a sense of grit and grind on the court. The 2008 Celtics will always be remembered for the first modern day super team. Thanks to those gritty Boston teams, having just one superstar isn’t enough anymore.
