Kevin Garnett’s Area 21 segment on TNT’s pregame show featured a 2008 Celtics reunion, and as expected, Ray Allen wasn’t invited.

While there were rumors running rampant about a 2008 Celtics reunion minus Ray Allen, everything was officially confirmed on Kevin Garnett’s Area 21 segment on TNT on Monday.

Garnett hosted the reunion segment with Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, and Glen “Big Baby” Davis present, and the lack of Ray Allen was arguably the most notable part.

“I’ve got my whole squad here, what’s up guys?” Garnett said as he introduced the four other former teammates on the show.

Rondo had notably said in the past that Allen wasn’t welcome at any reunion, after the shooting guard left the Celtics for the Miami Heat after the Heat beat the Celtics in the 2012 conference finals. Rondo is reportedly hosting an actual reunion/vacation outside of the Area 21 segment, with Allen notably absent from the invite list.

There had been significant drama between Rondo and Allen throughout their time in Boston, specifically dealing with the issue of playing time. After Allen left the team and pulled Kevin Durant’s “If you can’t beat them, join them: approach, the Celtics were noticeably upset.

Allen was a part of the starting five on the 2008 roster, making Big Baby’s presence even more awkward on the reunion. When the group of Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett and Perkins were all healthy and starting together, they never lost a playoff series. Their only losses with all on the roster together came when Perkins was injured in the 2010 NBA Finals, and when Garnett was out for the 2009 Eastern Conference semifinals against the Orlando Magic.

While Allen was a huge piece of the Celtics puzzle in 2008, it goes to show just how important loyalty is to your teammates. However, Allen’s probably happier earning a second ring with the Heat than appearing on a quick reunion segment.
