Rockets guard Patrick Beverley gave an emotional speech following the passing of his beloved grandfather.

Nothing in life is certain outside of death and taxes. Unfortunately for Patrick Beverley, he was forced to grieve the death of his grandfather before the biggest playoff game of his career. Beverley showed up to the Game 4 in tears after he learned of the tragic news. The Houston Rockets were able to pick-up Beverley and rally around him capturing a win to even the series 2-2.

Sports Illustrated NBA reporter Ben Golliver was able to capture the touching statement from Patrick Beverley following the Rockets Game 4 victory over the Spurs.

Death has been a devastating theme in regards to the 2017 NBA playoffs. Beverley is just the latest player to face grief this postseason as Isaiah Thomas is also suffering through the death of his younger sister. Frankly, I’m not sure how these guys are able to play basketball at the highest level while dealing with this off the court. Rockets forward Trevor Ariza expressed a similar sentiment recently.

"“I couldn’t do it. I don’t think I could do that,” Ariza told The Vertical while his 6-year-old son, Tristan, circled him outside the Rockets’ locker room.”"

Rheese Morris, Beverley’s grandfather, was his biggest fan. During the post game presser, the Rockets guard went on to say how Morris wore his jersey every single game. Beverley was able to put together a brilliant performance despite the passing of his grandfather putting up 10 big points for his team.

Beverley had a bit of a tough upbringing growing up as his grandfather raised him along with nine other siblings and cousins. Beverley’s NBA career wasn’t always as certain as it is now. Beverley, 28, spent time playing overseas in the Ukraine, Greece, and Russia before landing in Houston as an important part of a championship contender. He was also kicked off his collegiate basketball team in Arkansas. Beverley’s resiliency on and off the court is inspiring, to say the least.
