One of the greatest matches in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive history is getting a sequel as ELEAGUE has announced a top-tier CSGO showmatch next month.
Fans of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive haven’t forgotten January’s ELEAGUE Major, and neither has ELEAGUE itself, because they’re going to run it back next month.
The Turner and IMG brand announced Tuesday that it will host a rematch of the Major finals, called “Clash For Cash: The Rematch,” on June 16 as it builds up anticipation for its return to Counter-Strike this fall.
The Clash will be in the same format and setting as the Major’s Grand Final — a best-of-three contest between Virtus.pro and Astralis at the Fox Theater in Atlanta — with $250,000 on the line for whichever powerhouse team can win round two.
It’s a sequel to one of the best matches in CSGO history involving two of the top teams in the game. Virtus.pro won the inaugural season of ELEAGUE and more recently DreamHack Masters Las Vegas, in which the Polish roster defeated Astralis in the semifinals.
Astralis are currently considered by many to be the world’s best CSGO organization. The Danish squad is coming off a semifinal placement at last weekend’s IEM Sydney and also won IEM Katowice earlier this spring.
Not only have both squads remained in top form since their slugfest at the Major, but having them rematch is a strong promotional event for ELEAGUE to build momentum for its big plans this fall. It was revealed on Friday that the next tournament for Turner and IMG will be the ELEAGUE CSGO Premier in September.
The Clash for Cash will keep the brand in the news, as the current Street Fighter V Invitational will conclude with its Grand Final on Friday, May 26. That’s a break of only three weeks before CSGO is back on the menu.
Broadcast talent for the Clash has yet to be announced, but hopefully Turner will be able to bring back its entire impressive CSGO roster for what will definitely be another battle for the record books. If you’re a Counter-Strike fan, this is essentially Christmas in June.
