The GGG-Canelo announcement created a stir on Saturday, and GGG’s walkout after Canelo’s fight deservedly had some editing done to look like a WWE legend.
Boxing fans had been waiting for an announcement about a possible fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, more widely known as GGG, seemingly forever. So when the fight was officially confirmed for September, social media was immediately ready to shine.
After Alvarez easily defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday night over 12 rounds, speculation began on what was next after the win. Max Kellerman came into the ring to interview Alvarez, and madness obviously ensued.
“I’m just told that there’s a plan in place for your next opponent. Who is it?” Kellerman said.
“Golovkin, you’re next, my friend,” Alvarez then said, as fans went crazy. Social media eventually took advantage, and compared the historic moment to the usual gong and walkout by WWE legend, The Undertaker.
Golovkin had said before that he would not attend the fight, which made his appearance even better, and even closer to the Deadman’s usual arrivals in WWE. Golovkin walked out with his trainer Abel Sanchez and promoter Tom Loeffler, and both fighters were interviewed about their upcoming dream fight.

The moment helped to alleviate the pain from watching such a one-sided, punching bag-like fight for 12 rounds, where Alvarez proved why he’s one of the best boxers in the world. The fight obviously served as a tune-up and opportunity to showcase Alvarez’s talents, but it certainly wasn’t an ideal night outside of the announcement.
For both fighters and fans alike, September 16 can’t come soon enough. Here’s hoping when the time comes, GGG actually pulls something like this off and does an Undertaker-like entrance. We can assume that will never actually happen, but let’s just let a dream live for a little while.
