Joel Embiid has a new nickname … and a new shirt
By John Buhler
Joel Embiid may still Trust the Process, but he might have a new nickname. According to this shirt he was wearing, he goes by “Savage” now.
It was a delightful 31 games in 2016-17, but that is ultimately all we got out of Joel Embiid’s rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers. While he showed flashes of being small ball’s Hakeem Olajuwon, it was yet another year full of injuries and losing for Embiid’s 76ers.
Fortunately, the future looks very bright for Embiid and the 76ers. They didn’t finish in last this year, as they “Trusted the Process.” Embiid is the biggest believer in the rebuilding process, he in turn coined the nickname The Process for himself.
He is so talented that Embiid has decided that one nickname he gave himself isn’t enough. The other night he was seen walking around wearing a shirt with his first name, his surname and his new nickname: Savage.
Until the end of time, Joel “Savage” Embiid is the almost All-Star center for the 76ers. The legend continues most magnificently. Hopefully Embiid’s rehab from his most recent injury is going over well. He will be joined by 2016’s No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons and the presumptive favorite for 2016-17 Rookie of the Year, Dario Saric, next fall.
To add even more excitement to Philadelphia basketball, Embiid has been selected to represent the 76ers at the 2017 NBA Draft Lottery. While the 76ers only have the fourth-best odds to garner the No. 1 overall pick, we have to believe that Embiid is a good luck charm. Either way, he has to wear this Joel Savage Embiid shirt to the ceremony. Twitter will burn into a fiery blaze of glory if and when it does happen.

Embiid may still Trust the Process, but his is now working on his second NBA persona. Savage Embiid could be the greatest thing to happen to 76ers hoops since Allen Iverson crossed over Michael Jordan at the Spectrum two decades ago.
