Jay Cutler will be in the broadcast booth for the 2017 NFL season and weighed in on the current Chicago Bears quarterback situation recently.
Jay Cutler did not do many good things during his eight NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears, but he got it right when discussing No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky. On Friday, Cutler told the Waddle and Silvy Show on WMVP-AM in Chicago that the Bears should not rush Trubisky into action if the team gets off to a rough start in 2017. The Bears spent a good amount of money for the upcoming services on veteran Mike Glennon, who is looking to prove he belongs as a starter in the league.
For the New Orleans Saints, this was supposed to be the year they finally win more than seven games, but that could be in jeopardy now. Starting center Max Unger hurt his foot in practice on Monday, and word is he may be out until the start of the regular season. Unger injured his foot last season as well, and had to miss time because of it, leaving a huge hole in the middle of the Saints offensive line.
While most may have been surprised when the Kansas City Chiefs traded up to get Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, current starting QB Alex Smith was expecting it. The Chiefs told Smith they planned to draft a quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, and they did just that, trading up 17 spots to grab Mahomes at No. 10. Smith is entrenched as the starter, and the situation is perfect for Mahomes, who will get to sit back and learn behind a solid signal-caller in his first year in the NFL.
Staying with quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, it looks like pick No. 12 may be sitting to start the season as well. Deshaun Watson was drafted by the Houston Texans after the team traded up 12 spots to get him, and he will have to battle Tom Savage for the starting job this preseason. Savage recently stated he is “super ready” for the challenge, and looks forward to the competition with the talented rookie this summer.

Tony Romo was out there competing in a sport on Monday, but it was the game of golf instead of football this time. Romo just missed qualifying for the sectional qualifying round, after shooting a 75 in a local qualifier. The former Pro Bowl quarterback is an excellent golfer, and actually made it to the qualifier round back in 2010, but a weather delay interfered with a Dallas Cowboys practice, and he had to forfeit.
