Longtime ESPN sports anchor Chris Berman’s wife, Kathy Berman, passed away Tuesday afternoon in a car crash in Connecticut. The fatal crash occurred around 2:15 p.m., on Sherman Hill Road, or Route 64, near Tuttle Road, per the Connecticut state police.

The other passenger involved in the accident, Edward Bertulis, also passed away due to this tragic accident. Bertulis was 87 years old, and the police are reportedly investigating if he suffered some type of medical emergency before his car was struck from behind by Kathy Berman. Chris and Kathy Berman were married for 33 years, and have two children together, named Meredith and Douglas.

Kathy Berman was driving a 2003 Lexus, and Bertulis was driving a 2003 Ford Escape according to the police. Berman’s Lexus went down and overturned in a small body of water, per the police. Bertulis’ Ford went off the road, struck a utility pole and landed on its roof in the middle of the road.

The President of ESPN, John Skipper, released a statement expressing his empathy and sympathy for the Berman family, and how the entire ESPN family is supporting them through this tough time. Skipper stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Meredith, Doug and the entire family.”
