With a history of bad blood between the two ex-New York Yankees superstars, Derek Jeter is upset he had to sit next to Alex Rodriquez during an interview last week.

Derek Jeter was more than uncomfortable doing an interview with Alex Rodriquez last week. A week later, Jeter remains “beside himself angry” over having to sit next to his former teammate.

During the May 2 interview, CNBC’s Bob Pisani asked the two former superstars of their current relationship status. Do they plan on attending more charity events in the future?

“Since you both hung up the jerseys, you guys are friends now?” Pisani asked. Looking stunned, Jeter didn’t immediately reply. Then, playing off A-Rod’s third baseman/shortstop response, he makes a joke a few seconds later that they were always “side by side.” The way he handled the moment, maybe Jeter should think about entering politics.

ESPN’s Dan Le Batard declared on his radio show Wednesday that Jeter is livid about not being told he was doing the joint interview, according to Business Insider.

“I actually learned, factually, that Jeter was beside himself angry at that interview he had to do with Alex Rodriguez, first and foremost, because nobody told him he’d have to be sitting there next to Alex Rodriguez,” Le Batard said.

The feud goes back to an April 2001 article in Esquire in which Rodriquez criticized Jeter because “he has never had to lead. He can just go and play and have fun. He hits second — that’s totally different than third or fourth in the lineup. You go into New York, you wanna stop Bernie (Williams) and Paul (O’Neill). You never say, ‘Don’t let Derek beat us.’ He’s never your concern.”

Ouch.

Their relationship certainly didn’t improve after Jeter slid into second base during a game in May 2006. Momentarily disheveled after a close play, ESPN cameras panned in to show the T-shirt Jeter was wearing. It read: “A-Rod wears lipstick.” Or later that year when A-Rod farted in the dugout. As teammates turned to see the culprit, Rodriguez pointed at an unsuspecting Jeter.

From the looks of it, the superstars’ relationship will remain offensive.
