LSU Tigers head coach Ed Oregon is full of energy as one of the best recruiters in college football. His secret: about eight to 10 Monster Energy drinks a day.
The SEC may not be the best-coached conference in college football, but it has some of the most interesting human beings on the sidelines you’ll ever see. One guy that thankfully has a job running an SEC powerhouse is LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron.
Orgeron is in his second go-around as an SEC head coach. After failing a decade ago with the Ole Miss Rebels, he is now running his home state’s blue-blood football program. The guy is a sound defensive-minded coach and an unbelievable motivator/recruiter.
So where does all of Orgeron’s energy come from? Apparently aluminum cans, as Orgeron claims to drink roughly eight to 10 Monster Energy drinks a day. He told ESPN’s Dan Le Batard on his radio show Wednesday.
So Orgeron is not a coffee guy? That’s fine, but he might explode on the Tiger Stadium sidelines down in Baton Rouge this fall. Part of the Orgeron operating manual is never give Coach O Pop Rocks, as that would have unfortunate consequences.
2017 will be Orgeron’s first full season as the head coach of the Bayou Bengals. He took over mid-season for former head coach Les Miles. Orgeron galvanized a lost LSU program and helped turn it into arguably the second-best team in the SEC in a down year for the conference.

Of course, Orgeron will have to navigate major SEC rivals like Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and Florida this fall. If Orgeron has the energy of eight to 10 Monster Energy drinks every day for this upcoming season, LSU could make the College Football Playoff. At worst, Orgeron is now in the mix to be a major sponsor for Monster, or at least he should be.
