San Antonio Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard has a badly sprained ankle from Game 5. He is questionable for Game 6 against the Houston Rockets on Thursday.

Game 5 went into overtime on Wednesday night between the No. 3 Houston Rockets and the No. 2 San Antonio Spurs. While the Spurs held serve and won the pivotal game 110-107, they might be without their best player in small forward Kawhi Leonard for Game 6 in Houston.

Leonard rolled his ankle badly late in Game 5 on Tuesday night. He tried to power through it in the fourth quarter and did so. However, he was unable to play a second in the five-minute overtime period. He is listed as questionable by the Spurs organization in their latest injury report.

Being listed as questionable doesn’t normally mean much, but we should expect Leonard to do everything in his power to play in a potential series clincher on Thursday night. Here he is walking on Wednesday afternoon without a noticeable limp.

Leonard is one of three Spurs to have started in all 11 playoff games so far for San Antonio. Danny Green has been a fixture at shooting guard, while LaMarcus Aldridge has had an up-and-down postseason starting at power forward.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has had to rotate three big men at the five. He seems to have settled with Pau Gasol over Dewayne Dedmon and David Lee. However, he has had to wrangle with starting a rookie in Dejounte Murray at point guard now that Tony Parker is out for the year with a leg injury.

San Antonio simply cannot afford another injury to its rotation to have a shot at contending for an NBA Championship this summer. Winning on the road in Houston will be massively difficult any way for the Spurs. Expect Houston to play as hard as it can in a potential elimination game for the Rockets.
