The Beltway Series resumes in our nation’s capital tonight, and although offense has been the theme of the series thus far, Wade Miley and Stephen Strasburg have the ability to change that when they square off.

Well, can’t complain with last night’s outcome in getting my first legitimate break of the season, as despite four runs in the first inning (thanks to poor defense), we’re able to scratch out a push in the Giants-Mets Under 7 bet. Now, let’s move forward to Wednesday.

Wade Miley vs Stephen Strasburg

UNDER 8 (-125) (via OddsShark)

After a pair of overs in Baltimore, this four-game Beltway Series shifts to Nationals Park on Wednesday night, and it could be the pitching that dictates how this next contest plays out.

Not only have both Wade Miley and Stephen Strasburg looked like All-Stars through the first month and change of the 2017 campaign, they’ve also been notably consistent with their work.

Strasburg has been in his usual form, yielding three runs or less in all six of his outings, with all but one of those going for quality starts. In the only instance where this didn’t happen — his last start — Strasburg came within one out of doing so, instead delivering 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball in Philadelphia.

Surprisingly, Miley has done the exact same thing in allowing three runs or fewer in each of his assignments as well. The sixth-year left-hander had to exit his most recent outing in the first inning due to a wrist contusion caused by getting drilled by a couple of line drives but said he is fine entering tonight’s outing. Thus, that hopefully won’t mess with his consistency.

Both of this evening’s starters have also exhibited an ability for piling up the strikeouts. Strasburg, of course, is always among the league leaders in Ks, and this year, Miley is (by far) averaging a career-best K/IP rate, with 38 punch-outs in 31 2/3 innings. Considering the O’s and Nats lineups strike out a decent amount, that’s something that can come into play for this under.

All in all, though, it’s about these two hurlers maintaining their consistency and continuing on with their momentum. With a line of 8, that’s a solid number to work with given how both starters have fared thus far.
