If there was ever a doubt in your mind about running a half-marathon in Crocs, we should be able to put those to rest.

Yes. We’re dead serious.

In Indianapolis, Indiana, there was an 18-year-old who completed a half-marathon while wearing Crocs. You know, those crazy unfashionable shoes that should have never been made? He finished a marathon in that pair of shoes. Not only did he finish, he came in 16th place out of thousands of runners.

I know what you’re thinking. He probably forgot his running shoes and was forced to run in Crocs because who wants to run barefoot? Actually, he chose to run in the rubber catastrophes that we call Crocs. In addition to wearing the Crocs, he made the bold choice to wear socks with his Crocs.

Amazing.

Recently, Nike and Adidas have been rumored to be in a heated competition (what’s new) to secure shoe deals with elite marathon runners. And it looks as if Crocs may be getting into the marathon action as well.

This brave soldier’s name is Benjamin Pachev and he is my hero. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. I never though my hero would be wearing Crocs, but when destiny comes knocking, you can’t slam the door on her.

Benjamin’s brave act has me asking many life questions. The main question I have is this: why don’t more marathon runners buy Crocs?

Hear me, and Benjamin, out.

In an interview, he had with Fox59, Ben said that “Crocs are effective because they don’t cause blisters on [his] feet and keep [his] feet cool.” Apparently, “it’s like having a little fan that’s just streaming air over your foot.”

We should all be taking a lesson from Benjamin. Who cares what you look like when you’re running as long as you’re comfortable. So, next time the gym owner stares you down as you’re running on the treadmill in your Crocs, just keep running.

If Ben can do it, so can you.
