LaVar Ball doesn’t want hoops advice from Kobe even though Lonzo Ball is the actual player
By Tim Ryan
LaVar Ball continues to act like the member of the Ball family who will be taken in next month’s NBA draft and now he’s foolishly decided to give a verbal stiff-arm to Kobe Bryant.
Following Game 2 of the Celtics-Wizards series that saw Isaiah Thomas drop 53 points, the 5’9 guard revealed to reporters that he had been receiving some priceless film feedback from meticulous basketball critic, Kobe Bryant.
For some, the initial reaction to the news was one of surprise — a rather pleasant surprise — to learn that Kobe was taking his own, fee-free retired time to dissect game film with a player battling his way through an 0-2 hole (to Chicago at the time) in the NBA playoffs.
Yesterday in an interview with ESPN, Mamba took it a step further.
"“I’m around for all the guys. Anybody can reach out. It’s an open book.”"
Amazing. Now, who would dumb enough not to take the great one up on this generous offer?
LaVar Ball, because of course it’s LaVar Ball!
Check out this quote from the storied “pioneer” who’s also busy trying to sell freakin’ flip flops for $220.
From Complex:
"“I don’t need no advice from Kobe Bryant,” Ball said. “I don’t need advice from Kobe Bryant. Zo’s got to play his game. If they’re at practice and he sees something and Lonzo listens to him or whatever, he’s good… But it’s just not, ‘OK, I’m talking to Kobe, so now I’m going to be good.’ If Kobe sees something that Zo is doing, then go from there. But I’m not trying to pattern after nobody.”"
Remember that “open book” Kobe mentioned? Pretty sure he just ripped a page out.
Also, notice the use of “I” in that stellar screed. Kinda says it all. It’s also pretty fitting he felt the need to voice it twice.
For a guy who wants his son, Lonzo, to play for the Lakers, he’s going about it pretty stupidly. Then again, he’s going about almost everything stupidly.
The kid hasn’t even been drafted yet but the temperature of anything and everything Ball comes off like he’s an established star who needs nothing more than for the rest of the NBA to get the hell out of his way.
The sad reality is that all Lonzo can do is continue to smell this burning tire of media attention and pray he only gets dunked on 46 times next season.
All we can do is pray that Kobe promptly fires back with some signature Mamba venom.
