1. Toronto

Toronto was on the NFL’s relocation radar for a time, as the Buffalo Bills played games there amid some stadium and attendance concerns. That specific move is no longer being mentioned, especially since the Bills changed ownership, but that doesn’t mean Toronto can’t be an expansion location for the league.

Rogers Centre, home to the Toronto Blue Jays since it was built and the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts for a long time until recently, has a 54,000-seat capacity for American football. That makes Toronto a city with a usable stadium for an NFL team right away, even with upgrades that may have to happen to make it hold up as a permanent home long-term. But if the NFL wants to put an expansion team north of the border, there would be plenty of time to further modernize Rogers Centre.

Toronto has teams in MLB, the NBA, the NHL and even MLS, so it’s something of a major American sports city even without the technical location.

Football is not Canada’s national pastime, with that honor going clearly to hockey. But Toronto looks like an NFL market to at least be looked into in the future, if there is mutual interest in having a team there.
